On 2 January 2023 the new Real Decreto 487/2022 came into force, establishing the health requirements for the prevention and control of legionellosis, which fully affects the swimming pool and wellness sector.
PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL: swimming pools open to the public or to a defined group of users, not intended solely for the family and guests of the owner or occupier, irrespective of the payment of an entrance fee. They may be:
- Swimming pools where water-related activity is the main purpose, as in the case of public swimming pools, leisure pools, water parks or spas.
- Swimming pools that act as a supplementary service to the main objective, as in the case of hotel swimming pools, tourist accommodation, campsites or therapeutic pools in health centres, among others.
- Swimming pools in communities of owners, rural or agritourism houses, halls of residence or similar.
If a public or collective swimming pool, has a water temperature of 24ºC or higher and we have high speed or air injection jets, water games devices, mushrooms, curtains, waterfalls or similar, we have to apply this RD, which is the main novelty with respect to the previous one, which only affected spas and jacuzzis.
The turbidity of the water must be analysed daily and must comply with a parameter of less than 5 UNF.
HOW CAN WE MEASURE POOL WATER TURBIDITY?
The FTK-450TU TURBIDIMETER is a compact instrument designed for turbidity analysis in units of NTU/UNF (Nephelometric Turbidity Unit). It can read from low turbidity values up to levels of 1000 NTU. Nephelometric measurement method, which includes an infrared light source and a detector to monitor the light scattered at 90° to the incident beam, according to ISO 7027.
